GMC Sierra AT4X detailing – need advice on best approach

What's up everyone! I'm looking for some input from other GMC owners out there. I recently picked up a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X, and this truck is everything I wanted – aggressive off road capability, premium interior, all the tech features, and that commanding presence on the road. Here's the thing though. I actually use this truck for what it's built for. I take it off road regularly, use it for camping trips, haul equipment for work, and it definitely sees some action. After about 6 months of ownership, the truck is looking pretty rough. The exterior has mud splatter baked onto the paint, the wheel wells are caked with dirt, and there are water spots all over from washing it myself with a hose. The interior is also taking a beating. The AT4X has these really nice premium materials – the leather seats, the carbon fiber accents, the special stitching – but they're all covered in dust and dirt from my boots and gear. The floor mats are completely filthy, and there's sand in every crevice from a recent beach trip. I want to get it properly cleaned and detailed, but I'm not sure what level of service I actually need. Some places offer basic packages, others have premium services, and the price difference is pretty significant. Since this is a truck I actually use hard, I don't know if it makes sense to go all out or just get a solid cleaning. I've been researching GMC SUV interior and exterior detailing options (I know the Sierra is a truck, but most places group them together with SUVs), and there seem to be a lot of different approaches. Some focus on making it look showroom perfect, while others are more practical about protecting it for continued hard use. I ended up calling a few places to ask questions, and one shop really stood out. They understood that my truck is a working vehicle and suggested a practical approach rather than trying to upsell me on services I don't need. Their recommendation was to focus on thorough cleaning and durable protection rather than obsessing over perfection. For the exterior, they suggested a deep clean to remove all the baked on dirt and mud, paint decontamination, and then applying a ceramic coating that would make future cleaning much easier and protect against the elements. For the interior, they recommended a complete deep clean with steam cleaning for the seats and carpets, but also applying protective treatments so dirt and stains would be easier to deal with going forward. They specifically mentioned products designed for vehicles that see heavy use. I went ahead with their plan, and I'm really glad I did. The truck looks fantastic now – clean and well maintained – but they didn't waste time chasing absolute perfection that would just get undone the next time I take it off road. Everything is clean, protected, and ready to handle more abuse. The ceramic coating on the exterior has been especially useful. Mud and dirt rinse off so much easier now, and I can keep the truck looking decent with just a quick wash instead of needing major cleaning sessions every time. For anyone else with a GMC truck or SUV that you actually use for work or recreation, I'd recommend finding a detailer who understands that not every vehicle needs to be a garage queen. Focus on durability and ease of maintenance rather than just aesthetics. What do you all do to maintain your GMCs? Any products or techniques you recommend for trucks that see real use?
